Submission Guidelines

Most of the stories accepted into SlashIndia should be India focused
and touch real issues which are relevant to current times. The best
way to know the kind of posts accepted is to see previous submissions.
Frequently, interesting news stores without an explicit India focus
might be selected.

While submitting a story for consideration, do keep the following
things in mind.

  1. Study the style of reporting stories from posted articles and try
    to follow.
  2. Do provide a link to the complete article. Also, do check that it
    works by previewing your submission.
  3. All quotes from the article should go in a cite tag.
Example: <cite> this is quoted information </cite> appears
as " this is quoted information" .
  4. If the post is pretty long consider breaking it up so that only
a part appears on the post listing. The way to break up a post in the
middle is with a break tag which is written like <!--break--> .
The trimmed version of your post shows what your post looks like when
promoted to the main page or when exported for syndication.
  5. Do select an appropriate section/category for the post. The
existing sections are as follows, with brief explanations.

    • General - This is a kind of catch-all. Anything which does not go
into any specific section goes here.
    • Politics
    • Technology
    • IT - Anything related to Information technology.
    • Ask SlashIndia - This section includes questions which are directed
to the SlashIndia community to find out general perceptions/preferences.
    • Science
    • Economy
    • Entertainment
  6. Do remember to run a spell check (MS Word has a spell check feature)
    before submitting.
  7. A typical submission has the following structure, although if you
have successfully submitted before you can try to improvise the same.

    • You should first include your personal comment about the news and
why you think it is interesting
    • This should preferably be followed by a snippet from the actual news
article which should be enclosed in the <cite> tag.
    • Finally you should provide a link to the complete news.

The next point shows you a sample post.

  8. An example post, with html information intact is as follows:

The New York Times is hosting an article reporting the announcement
    by some <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/27/science/27eins.html?
pagewanted=1&incamp=article_popular">physicists that they have put a half dozen beryllium atoms into a "cat state."</a>

<cite> To a physicist, a "cat state" is the condition of being
two diametrically opposed conditions at once, like black and white,
up and down, or dead and alive. </cite>

The article also discusses some of the difficult and weird debates
around the seemingly nonsensical but experimentally sound predictions
that Quantum Physics has thrown at us.

    Quantum Physics.
    <!--break-->

The same appears on the front page as follows:
