Reservation Row: right from the trenches.

By Anonymous at Fri, 2006-04-28 17:10 | General | Reservation

I am an MBBS student at AIIMS (All india Institute of Medical Sciences). I was one of the protestors at the New Delhi incident on 26th. Believe me, the feeling of hatred, bitterness and the sense of abandonment that comes over you when you see your friends and classmates struck by water cannon and having tear gas shells thrown at their faces can never be explained in words.

I felt like my nation has betrayed me, and the criminals in the government are not listening. However even as I write this, our organisation YOUTH FOR EQUALITY (comprised of students of all five delhi medical colleges) is trying to shore up suport for our cause from all sources....

We have only one agenda - take back the OBC resevation proposal. there are SEVERAL OBC STUDENTS AMONG US WHO CAME THROUGH THE GENERAL CATEGORY AND THEY HAVE GIVEN PRESS STATEMENTS SAYING THAT THEY SEE NO JUSTIFICATION FOR IT.

Strikes of medical colleges have been reported not just in delhi but also in chandigarh, and there are plans for strikes in punjab haryana and rajasthan at some date. the movement is spreading its wings, but it is not supposed to be a movement of Medicos alone.

It should be a grassroots movement and it should happen NOW. Several of us have gone to IIT delhi, and although majority ofthe students are in support of our struggle, their BLOODY FACULTY HAS THEM UNDER THEIR THUMBS. they are scared of being removed from the rolls if they join us. this threat was seen even in other colleges of Delhi university and Indraprastha university that we went to. there is outright hostility as the faculty feel a protest by the students will impinge on the institute image.

However doctors and senior teachers from AIIMS have today given statements to the media and have joined us on a march protesting the hike.

Having SMS CAMPAIGNS AND BLOGS IS DOING US NO TANGIBLE GOOD. we must collect support and organise and communicate with other willing participants all over the country. unless the freaks in the legislature see our numbers and feel our anger nothing can be expected.

Please send your emails to youth4equality@gmail.com (Blog:youthforequality.blogspot.com). Without some of you taking the initiative in your own areas, especally if you are college students, nothing is going to happen.

Im talking about YOU. Dont think somebody else is there to do it for you. YOU take the steps. get in touch with some of us if you want to coordinate with us, at 9871441919, 9810754510, 9818650242, 9871011415, 9899194084, 9810141853, 9899657532.

TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS. YOUR FAMILY. YOUR TEACHERS AND SENIORS, IF YOU ARE IN SCHOOL OR COLLEGE. The general category isnot a scapegoat to be victimised at every damn election.

Our protests are strictly non violent and we hope you agree with us. each of us has been given instructions never to touch a policeman even if he is striking with a lathi, as that is just an invitation for the police to totally rape the marchers. although several people feel a burnt bus is just what we need, that is not really rhe truth. we have the sympathy of the nation now and we cannot lose it by resorting to hooliganism.

DO NOT CLOSE THIS PAGE AND FORGET ALL ABOUT THIS REQUEST. THIS IS A SINCERE REQUEST FROM ALL OF US AS WE A RE IN DESPERATE NEED OF NUMERICAL SUPPORT.

wish to join you

Take this beyond Reservation

By Ranganath Varma (not verified) on Thu, 2006-05-18 07:36

Hi
I am Ranganath varma from Vijayawada. My opinion about Reservation is that it has been always used as a tool to destroy the social fabric of the country. And when the social fabric of the country falls apart, its prosperity and integrity falls apart..This is exactly what is being done here..
With Congress in power the Christian COnversion activities are in high gear, the muslims are increasingly blackmailing the GOVT of India thereby the majority of India is getting sucked into this minoritism...Take the issue beyond Reservation, reservation is not the only malady, and becuase of the Political system we have, which made and encouraged the thought of Reservation by the Political classes.
Fight for 2 party system, and political reforms as well, put the age of retiremnt in Politics around 45, this will catch the imagination of the Youth across the nation and the politicians will try to curb this protest violently which will inturn pour in more sympathy to our cause
Really we need to fight this if the future of India and to prevent our children fighting or probably facing a civil war in the Future, We need to act to avoid this calamity

The present protests against reservation is reflecting no more than students from IIM'sIIT's and Doctors protesting to safe gaurd their interest.. May be the media is projecting that way saying medico's every time as if no other youth is protesting....
Throw the Doctors coat out in ur protest and be in plain casuals, plan ur protests..do not talk about Resertvation, it should be a part of a much larger talk..the issue is beyond reservation...Our protest should'nt at all refelct a confrontation between Upper castes or General category and BC,OBC or SC,ST.

Fight for Equality and full funding for the poor people untill under-graduate studies. This will widen your base by bringing in poor youths and their parents as well and helps to galvanise this protest into a mass protest

Make a Flag of the movement..and try to draw parallels with Landmark movements of the past by effective symbolism..Try defying to hoist the flag in landmark structures of the Freedom Movement... This movement has to burn becaue what is at stake in natioanal integrity, it is beyond reservation. Highlight the consequences of Reservation, though merit does suffer, I beleive merit will ultimately succeed even with or without reservation, so higlight that the main effect of Reservation is the destruction of national integrity and socail fabric which will be a recipe for civil war...Project the big picture abt Reservation. Thus we can succed in making this movement a mass movement..

Reach out to the wider public go door to door campaigning, and tell them what are going to be the consequences of Reservation and if u just need numbers to protest and support u give them some current affairs of whats happening like the bombing of Temples that is being increasingly happening and Muslimms rioting during Bush visits, Findings of Mukherkee commission about a possible plot (congress) that may be involved in the disappearace of Subash chandra Bose, useless HAJ subsidies for the muslims from the public coffers, do this only if u need greater numbers to join ur protest, and u need to need numbers otherwise the protest will not be heared, only awakening love of motherland will only have the passion of getting people out on the street..Simply going and telling that merit will be compromised will not work to help gain public support(bringing them onto the streets)...
Go and meet the Generals of the armed forces of India. Recently they have been humiliated with the tools fo reservation according to Religions... Ask their help..and ask their advise and pass of this feeling to them, that while the army is effective in protecting the countries borders, the traitors are within its borders destroying the social fabric of the country by which the country will be destroyed...Thus undermining the armed forces efforts at the border...
If the GOVT still doesnt heed to our calls let us ask our army to step in and take control and help India get rid of multi party system and evolve into a TWO party system both(natianalistic in nature) and publicly excecute the Lalu's, Paswan, Chandra Babu naidu, Karunanidhi, Mulayam singh Yadav..and the likes who amassed wealth to the tunes of billons of Dollars on the dead bodies of poor Indias.....
These ideas may be radical, but 21st century India simply cannot tolerate the currupt people, toleration of which will lead into the destruction of India.TWO PARTY SYSTEM fight for it, now it is the only way...simply becoz if u watch yesterday news a Muslim party has sprung up in UP..What do u think are they going to do any service to the nation, no way they are entering inot politics to milk the riches of India, and being muslims my feeling is that they will in one way or the other engage in subverse activities to undermine the integrity of India just as they have been doing for centuries..

In my city their is simply no protest, becoz the media is projecting as if it is the problem of medicos, and even the medicos here in Vijayawada are not protesting...So I Would have loved tobe in Delhi or Somewhere where protest are going, to to be part of this great movement....But If I find a protest in Vijayawada I am more than glad to add to the strength of the protest....
Are there any protest planned in Vijayawada?????Want to know

Your's sincierly

I am totally against this

By Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 2006-05-20 05:30

I am totally against this quota for sc/st/obc. If at all their is a need for reservation it is for economically weaker sections.
The politicians who favour reservations need to do a bit of experiment:
Let them have a hospital exclusively for themselves totally managed and operated by quota doctors. They and their families will compulsorily have to get their treatment in this hospital and no where else in the country. They will not be allowed to go abroad/import doctors for consultation. If after two years they still favour reservations then it can be considered,

secondly, let there be 50% reservation in the parliament, for all: president vice president, pm ,ministers all .

Once they realize the stupidity of their plans will they shutup.
