Congress rubs it in - reservation in the private sector.

By Anonymous at Thu, 2006-04-20 05:54 | General | Reservation

The Congress is hell bent upon furthering its agenda of populist, divisive and pseudo-developmental initiatives. The latest salvo is the growing voices in the party for legislation to enforce reservation in private sectors.

Corporate India has still not taken a stand against it, although Azim Premji recently put forth his scorn for reservation.

One wonders what happened to the reformer called Manmohan Singh, and why the hell is he letting all this crap fly.

It is no secret that the person in control in the congress is Sonia Gandhi. It is accepted management theory that if an inept person is put in a leadership role, he/she is susceptible to being misled and directed by its cronies (which such leadership is unable to differentiate from well meaning advisors). Sonia Gandhi is the sole reason behind why such retrograde initiatives as reservation have seen so much light.

It is ironical that a party which led India to independence, would one day have a leader symbolic of the failure that has become of the Indian system of democracy.

Maybe we need to vote

By poohneat on Sun, 2006-04-23 04:54

So the rich are unaffected, the really poor wouldnt know but its a nice simple populist gesture to let those who can exploit (sometimes).

Here are a few things i would love to see to how well this comission works...
1. No of Quota peoples joining a school and then 3/4/5 later how many finish.
2. No of Quota peoples actually performing in a position that they obtained by virtue of being people who got it handed to them
3. No of Quota peoples who took up a job/school spot who earn less than 4 lakhs a year (family income).
4. No of people who wish they werent in an category.. trust me there would be a few %.

oh well

If caste is a good indicator of deprivation now, it should have been a better index in the past. Let us consider Uttar Pradesh. It contains some of the most backward regions of India. Here the link between caste and deprivation should be stronger than the more advanced regions of the country. Information on the social, material and educational conditions of castes in U.P. is available only at the beginning of the last century. We get the ritual rank, the literacy rate in Hindi and the work participation rate for 42 castes from the census tables of 1901 and 1911. There are eight high or ‘twice born’ castes, 27 middle ranking or intermediate and ‘shudra’ castes, all of which are now considered OBCs, and seven ‘untouchables’, later designated SCs.2 In 1911 the average literacy rate was about 11% for the high castes. It was only 1% for the OBCs and 0.13% for the SCs. Thus, literacy rate seems to be strongly inversely associated with ritual rank.

why quotas

By qwan on Thu, 2006-05-04 04:22

If they want to help backward classes arrange for free educations.
But they should maintian a good result to be eligible for free and also a below average income. A college in mangalore used to do that. They would offer free college fees and even offer boarding and food free to outsiders but they had to maintain 60% all throughout the year. They even had special tutions free if someone found it difficult he was warned and told to attend these special tutions if he wanted to continue next year.
That is what they should be doing free education( where the hell is that education cess going the one that i see on all the bloody bills i pay)
And co-ordinate with NGOs to offer free tutions.
That is the only way to bring up the backward classes.
They want to keep them dumb by allowing lower percentages so that will never promote them to study and then they get their jobs on reservations. Some of them are totally incompetent but are hanging in there because of reservation. And then they will keep voting so that they never loose this priveldge.
I am just happy that the new generation of OBC do not think like that and many of them find it insulting.

The real motive behind reservation

By Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 2006-05-10 21:13

For the government, reservation serves one purpose:

Avoid creation of a homogenious group in the indian population, by making such distictions based on caste, it mearly ensures that dalit always remains dalit..

well they have a cleaver plan..borrowed from the British Raj..Divide and enusure vote banks....

it is surprising that

By Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 2006-05-15 17:54

it is surprising that proponents do not want to have an economic criteria for reservations and quote consitution which has made caste as the basis of this. But very same people do not flich while making the ammendments to constitution to suit their ends. Remember first reservations were only for STs/SCs and only for 10 years, every thing else has been through ammendments. They do not want anybody to believe that an OBC officers child is more previlidged than a poor upper cast cleark's son. This is nothing else but a move for easy gain. They say this has been going on for thousands of years, but then our country was also under occupation for nearly 800 years do we by that argument want reservations in UN, UK, and middle east for atrocities suffered at hands of invaders? Do we want those countries to compulsarily buy shoddy quality goods from us because we suffered at their hands at a time? Ask them how did honorable Dr. Ambedkar make it against all odds and is respected. Ask them how Dhirubhai Ambani whose house was sold for a paltry sum made an empire without reservation. Moreover this has come to light that these so-called creamy layers consider themselves a cut above in their own castes and do nothing to work for them and these are always from OBCs. This is no more than a ploy by some people for petty gains forwarded by divisive caste politics of congress in name of pesudosecularism.
