Bangalore dying.

Infrastructure problems have started taking their toll on Banglore's software industry. Software majors have started cutting down their expansion plans for the city and are also reducing their future hiring plans.

"Travel time in Bangalore has expanded a lot. The industry has grown very large and is now growing faster outside of Bangalore. All software companies are saying their hiring here for the 2007 fiscal year will be far lesser than for 2006," says Infosys CFO T V Mohandas Pai.

Bangalore was never designed

By Anonymous on Sun, 2006-01-15 08:19

Bangalore was never designed as a city to support such a burgeoning industry .. there is little that the govt. can do to alleviate the scale of problems that bangalore is facing .. additionally there are huge number of tier two cities in India which are waiting to be tapped..the software industry should move out ..not only for themselves but also for Bangalore.

Cities are not designed like that..

By nullpointer on Thu, 2006-01-26 01:33

I dont think any city could/would have been designed many years ago keeping far off future in mind. Problem is not design, problem is lack of update of the old design. Also, govt can do many things to set things right, thats what there are there for. Taking for granted govt's impotence shows nothing but our impotence.

As a person born in

By bangalorean (not verified) on Thu, 2006-01-26 19:28

As a person born in Bangalore and having lived there ever since, I can say that Bangalore has given more to Software companies than the other way round. Instead of making "an offer they cannot refuse" (heh heh) software companies should set up their centres in other cities.
Bangalore can still continue to be the the place where cutting edge R&D happens. But, all the "white collar coolie" jobs can move to other cities. Please take all these low end BPO and maintenance jobs away.
Thanks a lot.
A Bangalorean
